It takes real effort to push either of them in. Strangely, considering the relative looseness of the sticks, they are very difficult to depress. Resistance is acceptable but should be tougher the sticks are too easily pushed to their limits. The sticks feel similar to the official ones but the travel is not nearly as smooth. The analog sticks get the normal placement. The black button looks slightly larger than the white one, but it is an optical illusion. Additionally, the close placement allows you to move to the black and white buttons very quickly. This gives the controller a two-rows-of-three feel that is very comfortable. The control layout is fairly standard except for the black and white buttons, which are above and to the right of the main action buttons. In short, it feels much better than you'd think after looking at it. I sort of like the dense feel of the Controller S, but the Xdream feels pretty nice too. The Xdream has a large footprint than the Controller S, but it is much thinner. Despite the striking design it feels natural enough in hand, thanks to comfortable contours at all edges. The general shape of the Xdream is an "X" with the sides a bit filled in. It sort of resembles one of the Pelican pads, but not much else.
